Helping People on Dialysis Manage Pain
HOPE Trial
The Hemodialysis Pain Reduction Effort (HOPE) is a research study specifically for people being treated with hemodialysis. The main goal of the study is to test interventions designed to reduce the impact that chronic pain has on how people feel and function. The HOPE Trial is part of the National Institutes of Health HEAL Initiative to find scientific solutions to stem the national opioid health crisis.
The study is funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, also known as NIDDK.

The initiative is funding hundreds of projects like HOPE nationwide to address the opioid epidemic through one of two mechanisms; trying to understand, manage, and treat pain; or improving treatment for opioid misuse and addiction.
